Mill City Museum
The Mill City Museum in downtown Minneapolis makes flour fun! The museum focuses on the role of flour milling in the history of Minneapolis, but that’s not all. Learn about flour dust and its potential to catch fire. Find out how the river helped power the mill. Discover why Minneapolis was nicknamed “Mill City” when people came here to be near the flour mill. Check out the original exploded mill ruins, the train shed and the original railroad tracks from the 1800s.
– Ride the “flour tower” freight elevator and check out the amazing views of Saint Anthony Falls and the Stone Arch Bridge.
– Watch an example of a mill explosion in the exhibit hall. You might want to cover your ears!
– Sample a tasty baked treat in the baking lab.
